Accessibility

We want everyone to be able to use this website. This statement explains how accessible it is, what we know is not yet right, and how to tell us when we have got something wrong.

What we are aiming for

We are working towards WCAG 2.1 Level AA. Accessibility checks run automatically on every change, and we treat a failure as a bug rather than a nice-to-have.

What we improved

  • Pinch zoom works.
  • Every image carries alt text, and the build fails without it.
  • Every page has exactly one main heading, so screen-reader navigation is predictable.
  • Social and icon links have text that screen readers can announce.
  • Embedded players have accessible names.
  • There is a skip link, and it is visible when you tab to it.
  • The moving logo strip and the rotating job titles on the homepage have a pause button.
  • Form errors are listed at the top of the form, with a link to each field, and are read out when you return to the field.
  • The video on the homepage has captions, and a transcript beneath it.
  • Keyboard focus is never hidden behind the cookie banner or the mobile menu, and pressing Escape closes an open menu.

Known issues

Every page has been checked with automated tools and tested with a keyboard. We have not yet completed a manual screen-reader pass. We know about these issues:

  • The rotating headline at the top of the homepage cannot be paused. It stays still if your device is set to reduce motion.
  • Podcast episodes do not yet have transcripts.
  • The podcast player is provided by Spotify, so we cannot control how accessible it is. Each episode page also links to the recording on YouTube where one exists.
